Dover Foxcroft

Dover Foxcroft Dover-Foxcroft was named in 1922 at the merger of two townships on either side of the Piscataquis River. The practical, cooperative spirit of that merger is still alive and well in this friendly, charming Maine town. With a population of less than 4,200, it's almost impossible not to get to know your neighbors in Dover-Foxcroft. And with a host of rich community-centered activities, you'll want to! One of the town's landmarks, Foxcroft Academy, was the first private school chartered after Maine became a state in 1820. This dynamic school is still going strong, educating regional students, as well as boarding students from around the world. This infusion of youthful vision helps make Dover-Foxcroft a surprisingly progressive place for an historic town nestled in the heart of Maine. Dover-Foxcroft's community spirit is evident in another one of its landmarks, the Center Theatre. A group of citizens recently helped resurrect the venue, turning it into one of Piscataquis County's busiest performing arts centers, hosting everything from touring acts to films to the annual "battle of the bands." Dover-Foxcroft residents also benefit from Mayo Regional Hospital, offering a range of acute-care and wellness programs. Perhaps the greatest health benefit of living in the Dover-Foxcroft region, however, is the outdoor opportunities. With both camping and day-trip opportunities, Peaks-Kenny State Park, features its kid-friendly beach on Sebec Lake and is a local family favorite five minutes from the center of town. Dover-Foxcroft is also within 30 miles of expansive Moosehead Lake, the largest body of freshwater east of the Mississippi; l.5 hours to Baxter State Park, home of Maine's tallest peak, Katahdin; and less than two hours to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. When your adventures include leaving the state for business or pleasure, Dover-Foxcroft is just 40 miles from Bangor International Airport (BGR). Bangor also offers a major medical center and major shopping opportunities. People who are used to traffic jams, crowded roads, and long lines at the store will find Dover-Foxcroft, Maine a breath of fresh air. With its winding back roads, and a river or lake at every turn, it's likely you'll find yourself relaxed and refreshed the minute you drive into town.
